When fishing I only use a 2.5 / 3.0 oz lead max for all my fishing. Using running leads it seems to suit my style of fishing. How do you fish fixed, running etc?

I have cast 20 oz's in Spain on the river
I think you need to be flexible myself and suit your set up to the water and conditions at the time of fishing |

Not the average weight for a lake though, maybe with a strong river current but for lake fishing a bit big |

I know of some lads who use a 1lb weight on a lake
But as I said above

Ok .....you are fishing lac Du Der ...12.000 achers ....with a strong wind on and white horses
to get to the areas where the carp are feeding you have to fish 300 yards
With that much line out in the water and the strong winds, making the untertow very strong .
Would you A) use a 2 .5 that keeps being pulled of the feeding spot ???
or B) use a light ling to a much hever lead that will hold your hookbait in the feeding area ???
I know my awnser Adapt to the conditions and overcome |

In those circumstances it wouldn't be an option, you would adapt to the conditions |

On most lakes i'll use 3oz leads, mostly running rigs, but that'll depend on certain conditions and how i'm fishing.
I've never fished a really big water, by that i mean like the size of cassien and the likes, so wouldn't know what size of lead would be best, but i have fished estuaries for saltwater fish, and use certain leads for coping with tides. Ron, do you use the same type of leads that the sea guys use, like the wire grippers and uptide grippers, i think these would hold well, i normally use an 8oz gripper and this sticks well. Getting out of my depth here lol. Pound leads though, you must boat these out surely? |

We use a round flat lead mate ...helps to stop it rolling
we do boat out the leads most times ...but I do this in Pairs ...so if an odd rod goes and there is only one to put back out ....I will cast it even with 20 ozs on
I actualy had one of the cliants as why I bother with the boat ....as I can cast it just as far as I take them out |
