June 16th

Hi all,

It's nearly June the 16th. For me this day still holds as much magic and excitement as ever. For twenty five years now i have fished a lake or a strech of river that has opened on this very special day. My local syndicate still holds the traditional closed season on the big fish lakes and long may this continue.
The smaller fish lakes open over the close season so members can get a bend in the rod Very Happy

The first night, the draw for swims, the bbq and the following banter Laughing

How many people still get out fishing on the magical 16th. Do any of you get out for a dabble??? Very Happy

Well i got out on the magical 16th. I spent the night of the 15th relaxing with a few mates on the banks of one of my syndicates i belong to. The night was pretty uneventfull as far as the fishing was concerened but socially it was a late but good night.

One of the fella's managed a 36lb mirror on the morning of the 16th which pleased us all.

After a couple of days i then decided to go elsewhere as the pressure on the lake had sent the fish into hide away mode. I was not sure where to venture of too. I had had a phone call from a good friend, who i had not fished with for some years but kept in contact with the previous night but my battery was low so i said i would call him the next day when my phone was charged. This was to be a stroke of luck as i phoned him the next morning, the first thing he said was "do fancy fishing together soon" to which i replied yes. 3 hours later we where both walking a twenty minute walk across fields and streams to a lake i had not visited for fifteen years. A nice big now overgrown water was in front of me. How the place had changed, and the fish, how much they have grown.
12 fish 2 anglers and not another sole.
It was good to be back Wink

Hi Ron,

Sorry the last post did not read as it should. The lake only contains 12 known fish. When i fished it years ago we reckon it held about 30 carp to 30lb. They are very much bigger now. It's going to be hard fishing and if i get the one's i want i will post them up. My mate has been on the last three years solid and he got the big one two weeks ago so now i feel i wont be stepping on his toes to have an angle for them Wink

If i caught all twelve i would make the front cover of every mag Laughing

sorry Ron, yes i did have the best start i could have imagined for even if the lake i ended up on has no season's. Apart from the changing seasons Very Happy
