Vive La Difference!

Exclusive syndicate carp fishing… in France

Here’s the chance to enjoy some fabulous carp fishing with a difference. Unlike most French carp lakes, where individuals pay for a week’s fishing on heavily-managed venues, the ‘Lake of the Woods’ project offers anglers the chance to join a small, select syndicate on an unspoilt, mature estate fishery!

The beautiful, 15-acre lake is set in the Champagne region of France, just outside St Dizier. The lake itself (Etang Au Bois) was constructed in pre-Napoleonic times, and it is surrounded by mature woodland hundreds of years old. The estate is naturalised and the venue has never been fished before. It lies within a private estate, within sight of the occupied farm house, and just 10 minutes from the nearest market town. There are ample, secure car parking and toilet facilities on site.

Places in the syndicate are now being offered for the first time to just 20 experienced, like-minded anglers who want the peace and tranquillity so often lacking on commercialised venues.

Angling activity will be low and the lake will be unpressurised to allow the fish to flourish. Fishing swims have been formed on one bank only, allowing stalking on the opposite side in the water-lilies and the rich marginal flora.

Hitherto, the lake has been used for fish rearing, but the original stock has been netted and removed.
New carp were purchased from well-know fish farmer Paul-François Bachelier, all in excess of 20lbs and some more than twice that weight. The uncaught carp originated from the big lake next to Lac De Horre.

Membership of the exclusive syndicate costs £500 in 2008, and this will entitle each member to enjoy five, week-long trips a year or the equivalent number of fishing days for shorter trips. The first fishing will commence during the first week of April 2008.

To safeguard the lake and other members’ enjoyment of the venue, applicants will need to demonstrate their carp-fishing experience and responsible attitude to syndicate membership.
