Big pit / Baitrunner

I have often wondered if there is an advantage with either of these systems. I use a big pit in away. I use Shimano Power Aero 10000 XTE. These have a bait runner system intergrated into the front spool which allows full control when playing a fish.

I have been looking closely at the Daiwa Basia but a cost issue does creep in.

What system do you support?

I have used the big Shimano bait runner's since the day they came out ...cant fault them  Very Happy  Very Happy

I even use the old Shimano 6500 for my catfishing  Very Happy  Very Happy

I thought a larger reel would be used for the cats

The newer ones are not strong enough for the very big cats ...but the 6500 are just the job  Very Happy  Very Happy

my take on it is that a big pit is what you want for everything, you can use it in a puddle just the same as an inland sea.

currently use longcasts but would love a set of Basia's.

what do you guys think about Daiwa Entoh 5500's bearing in mind i'm fishing Chanty next year.   I reckon i'll be putting them on Free Spirit Hi S 12ft 6in 3.25lb rods.

i'm definatly getting new rods and just fancy a change of reel and cant afford the Basia's, nothing wrong with the longcasts at all, just fancy treating myself.

I use the Shimano 8000gteb's, I don't fish massive waters, only upto about 45 acres. They are ideal for me and will do anything i want them to do, I let the rod do all the work and take all the stick, the reels there to take up the line or let it out if the strain gets too much.
As for big cats??, i would most likely need something stronger, but i only come into contact with the smaller ones so needn't worry too much.

i don't know if i toally agree with that last post, but anyways.

i've changed my reels now, or should i say my missus did for me, lurvley set (4) of ISO QD 5500s for christmas.

just waiting for a frikken line counter to arrive and i can get them spooled up with the 30lb whiplash sat on the side waiting!

I've just gone from my trusty shimano longcasts to a set of the daiwa infinity x 5000br, cant say how they are yet as aint caught a fish on em, but i used to have a set of the daiwa entohs and they were brilliant (but as I like a baitrunner I got the infinitys) so if they perform like them I will be very happy.

I prefer front drag reels as i find the clutch so much better.  I used to use shimano 10k's but switched to Basia's 2 years ago and haven't looked back. Baitrunners are heavy and unneccessary imo.  I've also stumbled across Daiwa ss2600's for my pond rods which i have had converted by spool converters to QD. Dying to see what the clutch is like but keep bloody blanking !!
