Boilies: homemade or shop and why?

do you make your own boilies?  and if you do, is it because of the satisfaction of  " they were mine" when you catch ??
OR   do you buy shelf boilies because it's easier, and the convienience factor ??
carp-guru

A bit of a double edged question this. I have in the past made my own boilie's just as a experiment. They have caught , but in saying that the cost of making for instance 2kg of bait from scratch was to expensive for me .

On the other hand I have / get my boilie's made for me and at £4.50 it is alot easier.

There is a couple of lads that make them between them at the lake I am in and they can make 2kg for £3.25. So a good question AC which way do you go.

Cost versus convienence???

Laughing   Laughing  now there's a quetion carp-g, homemade if I've the time (blow the cost) and convieniently shelf life if in a hurry, but, in saying that you have stated that you buy from which is very reasonable price wise, I too have done the same, and found them to of caught well.
but that takes away the pleasure of them being your own, I suppose to be honest its up to each individual,  Laughing   but thought i'd ask the question ....  Wink
carp-guru

I have enjoyed making my own and still do but on a short session I would buy 1kg as apposed to making 2kg. Does that make sense.

The thought of a home made bait to my spec. instead of buying a bait made by other manufacture and being labbeled the best bait annoys me . They are all made no doubt by one company and labelled by others Evil or Very Mad  Evil or Very Mad

surely does c-g, and it is annoying what you have said re other companies, how can they get away with it??  Mad
carp-guru

I think AC nobody questions it. In any other buisness it would be called a monopoly and that can't be tolerated so why should this. ( Allegilally ) Laughing LOL
activecarper

lol, not only is it the questioning it, it's the prooving it as well, so prob why no-one gets into that senario...  Laughing   Laughing

too be honest i struggle to get the time to fish forget making my own boillies, couldn't be bothered anyways.

i'm on Nash 18mm squid and scopex at the moment
trevfish61

Hi Al, have you had any joy on the squid and scopex?
Big Al

had all four fish to 31lbs last time out.

i have to say Nash is my preference however i'm not into paying full price for bait so it's what i can get a deal on.   got a deal through a mate on the Nash at the moment, i'll be filling the freezer throughtout the year to make sure i have a year or two supply.
Big Al

hey i like the look of that advert at the bottom of my previous post, 10kgs of halibut pellet for £9.99   www.iwantbait.com   , going to have a look at that advert.

and there i was saying before that the adverts at the bottom of the posts were a bit annoying!
Big Al

yep, just been on the site, prices are quite good, £6.50 shipping per 25kg nationwide, not bad at all but i'm sure they would let you collect from Sheffield if you were in the area.

Had a nice 12lb mirror on catcherbaits tiger&maple, also lost a massive cat(i think) on a richworth pineapple hawian pop up, 10 mins of pure power then it found a snag, nothing I could do, I think the cats go up to about 40lb in our lakes!!.

Make all my own baits from home!!

Well what can i say other than i know it's alot of hard work making bait from home but i believe that with a little effort, you can significantly improve your own fishing and catch rates!  My catch rates have really sored since making my own and also the satisfaction you get is great.  A lot of hard work mixing lots of different ingredients to make one mix and a bit of a nightmare but the finished product is awesome and gives me a edge over alot of anglers from the start, as every thing in my bait is quality quality and no corners cut!  But there is alot of good bait companys out there for those with limited time, because it is time consuming making your own with out a doubt? Laughing
Dave Williamson

I have to agree that making your own bait is very satisfying. Nowdays most bait companys sell there basic mixes to rolling companies and with a few tweaks you can have your own bait.

With the amount of angling i do i used to find that every night i was either fishing or making bait. If you have a good search about and buy your ingredients from the rolling company it can work out as little as £1 a kilo on top of your ingredients. That works out at about £6.50 a kilo. The more you buy the cheaper it gets Very Happy  Very Happy
