LanguageJust got back from France at 3 this morning.............yuk!
Thought I'd share my lessons learned about the French language ...
1) Whilst a lot of words ARE the same, just pronounced differently, telling people you bought une petite maîtresse* for the mobile home is not a good idea. Benoite looked horrified then couldn't stop laughing and Francois grinned and asked if he could have 2.....
2) The problems work both ways ... Benoite's friend passed on her apologies for the fleas in our room... (flies...honestly!)
3) Don't ask anybody what 'coquine' means, or at least not until you know them well. Let's just say that it applies to women of marketable virtue......
Ah well, at least we're trying!
* maitresse = mistress!

I should imagine you have to be carefull when trying to explain yourself.

Yes but it was all taken in good spirit , we had a lot of fun and you get brownie points for trying!! Francois said he hadn't seen Benoite laugh so much in a while.

Looks like you're learning quickly my dear...!
I'll try to carry on some mutual lessons when we see each other again.
BTW, Charlotte says hi and we both look forward to see you and the lake :)

Hi Val!
It would be so nice to see you both again. It feels like such a long time since we saw you in France last time.
You're right, this is a steep learning curve in all sorts of ways, but it's fun to learn, you know? Keeps you young!
Send loads of love to Charlotte
Trish xx
