Is there a casting technique to using this rig. Due to the lenght of the rig why doesn't it tangle on the cast?

Would it help keeping the rod high on the cast? |

I would say that compression of the rod would not be of priority but the way in which the rig sits! |

I would love someone to show me success on the zig rig. I have tryed on a few occasions over the years, either the bloody thing tangles or i catch sod all. I know there are some anglers that swear by the Zig rig and are very successful, but i would love to be showed the way with this technique as have no confidence using it at all? Any body had any good fish on Zig rigs on this forum? |

Hello Carpden
I have caught loads of carp on the Zig over the years. I have found this rig does not work on certain waters. I have always found it to be best when used on waters with a good head of fish. Not a big fish low stock water.
I use a normal lead clip set up. With this i use 10lb clear diawa sensor as hook length. My prefered length of hook length will be 2/3 of the depth of the lake. This has caught me lots of fish in the depths of winter when the fish sit near the top as the water is near freezing point.
To stop tangles with this rig i put a piece of dissolveing foam on the hook. I put the rod over my head to cast but before i do this i put the lead on the ground, lay out the hook length and put the hook in a dry mug. I then do an overhead lob with a fairly high cast and as the rig is nearing hitting the water i stop the line leaving the spool. This then straightens the hook length. I qiuckly shut the spool and make a few turns on the real as it is all going down this keeps it straight.
Hope this helps
